Hello! My name is Ryan Ing, and I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh, working within the Greenland Ocean Forcing focus group of ISMIP7.
My current research focusses on quantifying the change in ocean forcing impacting the Greenland Ice Sheet, and investigating the ocean’s role in driving ice sheet mass loss. I also have an interest in how surface melt modulates ice sheet dynamics. To explore these processes I use a combination of remote sensing, fieldwork and model data.
My background is in Meteorology and Climate, with an undergraduate degree from the University of Reading. I then completed an MRes in Polar and Alpine Change at the University of Sheffield, followed by a PhD with Prof. Pete Nienow at the University of Edinburgh.
Outside of my PhD, I like spending most of my time in the mountains, hiking, climbing, skiing and painting
